I am not a health professional. Please don’t take my advice over the advice of your doctor or other health professional!
I am also not Google! If you send me an anonymous question that you can easily find the answer for using a Google search (i.e., “What are the benefits of a protein shake?” “What is the best cheese for weight loss?” etc.), it’ll just be deleted. When you send me those questions, all I do is search Google — and if I can do it, so can you. Plus, doing your own research is the best way to learn!

Q. I’m this tall and weigh this much, what is my BMI/am I overweight/underweight/normal weight??
A. Click this handy-dandy link to calculate your BMI! This will give you one measure if you’re at a good weight for your height, but remember, BMI isn’t a measure of health! There are other better ways to determine if you need to lose or gain weight, or maintain your weight.
Q. “I weigh ___ lbs, how much can I lose by next week if I do x, y, and z?” “How can I lose ___ lbs by this date?” “How long will it take me to lose ___ lbs?”
A. There is no way that I can know your body well enough to tell you how quickly/how much weight you can lose. My advice on this front is to not make weight loss about losing by a certain date or event — make it something you do for your whole life. You’ll be less stressed about trying to hit that deadline, and you’ll probably see better results!
Q. How many calories do I need to eat a day in order to lose weight?
A. Click here!
Q. Will you promote my blog? Promo for promo?
A. No, I won’t. I sometimes do promotions of multiple blogs at once, but never because someone asks me to. BUT if you’d like me to simply check out your blog, that’s fine! :)
Q. Will you follow my blog? Follow for follow?
A. Similar to my answer above, I’m not going to follow you if you ask or tell me to. I follow very specific blogs for specific reasons. If you want me to check out your blog, again, that’s fine, but if you post lots of thinspo/fitspo, don’t be surprised if I don’t follow you.
Q. How do I stop bingeing? What do I do after a binge?
A. Some basic tips to avoid a binge:
- Don’t eat unhealthy foods straight from the package/container. Take out a serving, and then put the box away, out of sight.
- Minimize distractions while eating. Don’t pull out a bag of chips while on the computer or watching TV — remain mindful while you eat.
- Drink water! If you feel a binge coming on, drink a glass of water first.
If you truly feel out of control during your binges, these tips might not help completely. Never be afraid to seek help; therapy can do wonders for those with disordered eating patterns.
This post by MatchstickMolly is a great resource for what you should do after you binge.
Q. How can I increase my intake healthily?
A. Read my response to this question :)
Q. How can I stop late-night snacking?
Q. How do I lose fat from my arms/legs/stomach/face/other specific body part?
A. There is no such thing as “spot reducing,” or targeting fat loss in one specific area of your body. Your body is the one that’s going to decide where you lose weight from first, and that varies from person to person. The best you can do is to continue to eat healthily and exercise! Consider adding in strength training to help build more muscle and increase your calories burned just by living :)
Q. Is _____ a good way to get my cardio in?
A. I get this question a lot, and I’m not sure why. Anything that gets your heart rate up and keeps it up for a sustained period of time is going to be a good source of cardio exercise. So if you like the elliptical and you feel like you’re getting a good workout, then go for it! If you don’t like the elliptical, then it’s probably worth it to check out different forms of cardio, like running, cycling, dance classes, workout videos, etc.
Q. Is this food healthy?
A. Try searching the food in question on the Fooducate website! It’s a great resource for finding out how healthy some foods really are.
Q. I don’t have any motivation. Can you help me?
A. The only person who can motivate you is yourself. I can give you tips to help you be motivated, but end the end, it’s all on you. Also, check out my answer to this question as well as this post by fitvillains! (also, for posts that I consider to be motivation for myself, click here!)
Q. What are you favorite blogs? What blogs should I follow?
Q. I need exercises and/or recipes!
Q. Do you have links for Insanity?
A. Yes, check here.
Q. Should I include fruits and veggies in my calorie intake?
A. Yes you should, because there’s no such thing as a negative calorie food. If you’re worried about your calorie intake, though, start with cutting out other processed and artificial foods before you start cutting out things that are all-natural and good for you.
Q. Can you tell me how to get a thigh gap/see my collarbones/hipbones?
A. No. Just in case you’ve forgotten, you can’t spot reduce. Plus, I consider those goals to have nothing to do with healthy weight loss and and everything to do with the often unhealthy thinspo community.
Q. What are your favorite workout songs?
Q. What do you think of the _______ diet?
A. Let me make this very clear. I do NOT approve of any program that:
- has been developed by a teenager (or anyone older than that, really) on tumblr,
- has the word “diet” in it,
- has not been approved to be safe for you by your physician, licensed nutritionist, or other health professional.
